Walking with Story – Yeddonba and Mount Pilot
Just 40 minutes from Corowa lies a truly special place — one that blends art, ancient story, and the quiet grandeur of the landscape.
Yeddonba, recently reopened within the
Chiltern–Mount Pilot National Park, offers visitors a journey through culture, time, and country — a connection to the First Nations history of this remarkable region.
A Place of Ancient Voices
Yeddonba sits within the traditional lands of the Dhudhuroa and Bangerang peoples, where ochre paintings and cultural markers date back thousands of years.
The walk, guided by interpretive signage, gently introduces visitors to sacred stories — including the striking depiction of the
Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) — a painting thought to be more than 2,000 years old.
These stories remind us that we are walking through living culture, still speaking through the rocks, trees, and skies above.

The Pathway Through Country
The newly built boardwalks and stairways wind through towering granite boulders and eucalyptus forest, allowing visitors to explore respectfully while preserving fragile sites.
Every turn reveals a new perspective — filtered light through the trees, a glimmer of ancient ochre on stone, or a stillness that invites reflection.
You feel it — that sense of connection and calm that only comes from places with deep, enduring spirit.
The Outlook from Mount Pilot
A short drive or hike from Yeddonba brings you to the Mount Pilot Lookout, offering breathtaking 360-degree views across the valleys and forests below.
The landscape stretches toward the Murray River basin — a vast mosaic of greens, greys, and blues — timeless and humbling.
Here, nature and story converge. The
Wedge-tailed Eagle, or
Milmulyaan, soars as both a symbol and guardian of the sky — a reminder of strength, vision, and continuity.
