ART HOTEL AT CIRCA 1936
OBITUARY
robert klein boonschate
1958 - 2023
"The sheer infinite, enduring complexity of nature inspires the contemplation of mystery which is what I find myself doing. Through art I can participate in the destruction, preservation and creation cycles of nature. The activity of art gives me peace and joy. It is the participation in this relationship that nourishes the soul'.
Born in 1958 in the Netherlands, Robert Klein-Boonschate moved to Australia with his family in 1971. He studied graphic art at Swinburne College of Technology before setting up a small gallery in Melbourne that focused exclusively on drawing. He then moved to Central Australia where he was inspired by the Australian landscape and Indigenous art.
Over the years, he held countless exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney, and across the country. With a deep interest in nature, Klein-Boonschate derived his subject matter from in-depth study, and this in turn informed and inspired his paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Over his career, this evolved to include an ongoing exploration of his own self-expression, which he continued to examine through a multitude of interests and projects.
However, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Klein-Boonschate on June 13, 2023. His contributions to the art world and his unique approach to capturing the essence of nature and self-expression have left an indelible mark on those who appreciated his work. Klein-Boonschate's legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
