The North East Victoria Silo Art Trail

Oct 05, 2023

Travelling between Melbourne, Sydney, or Canberra?

Here's a short detour we fell in love with, and we think you will too!

Hello from Jen and John,

During one of our adventures, we stumbled upon the North East Victoria Silo Art Trail. It wasn't just the breathtaking art that captivated us, but the enchanting countryside that cradled it.

Navigating these paths, you'll witness the heartbeats of our continent's most prosperous farmlands. The seasons here unfold in an artist's palette, from the luminous yellows of Canola crops in Spring to the sun-kissed hues of wheat and barley. You'll witness the ballet of irrigation farming, punctuated with livestock that sings of Australia's agrarian tales.

Our Personal Highlights:

  • St James: This quaint town unravelled the tale of Sir George Coles, the founder of Coles supermarkets. Discovering his roots in St James was a beautiful revelation.

  • Devenish: A pause here, with a warm Devonshire tea in hand and the grandeur of historical murals in sight, felt like a journey back in time.

  • Goorambat & Tungamah: Every nook of these towns whispers stories of the past, beckoning travellers to listen, absorb, and reminisce.

Though this detour is a mere 30-minute addition to your journey, we urge you to take it slow. Relish a Devonshire tea or savour a cold beer in one of the charming, age-old pubs. Let the region tell you its story.

This canoe trip was not merely a passage through water, but a voyage through a landscape where the past meets the present.
